The Unbearable Nakedness of Climate Change
August 20,2010
EXCERPT:
For an inordinately long time, one of the biggest troubles with Climatology has been its fixation with predicting the future, far before it will ever be able to understand the actual mechanisms of Earth’s climate in detail enough.
This has several nasty consequences, including a predisposition on the part of the very scientists to describe the future as some kind of catastrophe, and to make do without professional niceties (what is the point of being gentlemanly when the world is …

Those ingrate Inuit! They just don’t appreciate all the efforts that middle class Greenies are making on their behalf!
The prime minister of Greenland – a socialist, no less – has attacked Greenpeace for sabotaging an Arctic exploration rig. Kuupik Kleist is plainly not a politician given to circumlocution:
The cabinet regards Greenpeace’s action as very serious and an illegal attack on the country’s constitutional rights. It is worrying that Greenpeace, in their hunt for media exposure, violate security rules made to …

Hello Readers,
Yeah the Blog was down for two + days.
I apologize for the shocking change.
For some reason one little spot in the wordpress files went bad while I was upgrading the Forum software. But I have a back up of the data and help from the founder of this Blog.Steve LeMaster who fixed the problem.
We still do not know why it happened, but that it happens for no obvious reason still did not damage anything. It simply fails to work because of a missing configuration file.
There is a good reason why regular back …

Anyone who reads this blog knows that meteorologist Joe Bastardi is one of my favorites. Yesterday he wrote a scathing piece at his European blog about his alma mater Penn State for the way it whitewashed the Michael Mann affair, and other things.
Joe Bastardi is a graduate of Penn State, receiving a degree in Meteorology and is a leading Accuweather meteorologist. His seasonal forecasts almost always far outperform those of “climate scientists”. It’s because Joe knows what he’s talking about, the …

Part One: Al Gore & Friends
Al Gore became El Gore for a day and went to Mexico. The man who criticized ‘media censorship’ of the Gulf oil spill promptly locked the media out of his event and no-one was allowed to talk about how much he got paid, or who picked up the bill for his talk about global warming.
The Goreacle is having a hard time adjusting to the news that the Democrats have abandoned a climate bill and he is not gracious in …

The latest news is most countries in the world are backing out of the pseudo scientists’ wishes for limits on greenhouse gases and global warming legislation. Most industrial countries realize it is too expensive an endeavor to partake in at a time when the world’s economy is teetering on collapse, since over two hundred billion dollars would be needed from wealthy countries to help poor countries conform to proposed climate change rules. Poor countries also do …

EXCERPT:
Many writers have been unsatisfied with the terms used to classify the two sides of the climate debate. Warmist and skeptic seem unsatisfying for the first, and demeaning for the second. The warmist label is also a bit narrow, in that those on that side also preach ocean rise and acidification, severe storms, floods and droughts (on alternate days), and other disasters. Many of these predictions take on a “the sky is falling” tone. The warmists call themselves climatologists, but that term is …

How is it that a settled science keeps finding things never expected?
For example, the HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO) mission was launched in January 2009 and will make a series of five flights over three years covering more than 24,000 miles to sample the atmosphere in some of the most inaccessible regions of the world. Read HIPPO background here.
The goal of the mission is the first-ever, global, real-time sampling of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases across a wide range of altitudes in the …

The accuracy of any future prediction is limited to the completeness of the current understanding, which is based on empirical measurements. You may sense hot and cold but until the invention of the thermometer you could not quantify temperature. The same with the hydrometer for relative humidity, barometer for atmospheric pressure and anemometer for wind speed. As these instruments gained wider distribution there was an ever-increasing database to establish trend lines.

Climate Truth: Has there been global warming?
Dr. Miskolczi: No one is denying that global warming has taken place, but it has nothing to do with the greenhouse effect or the burning of fossil fuels.
Climate Truth: According to the conventional anthropogenic global warming (AGW) theory, as human-induced CO2 emissions increase, more surface radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere, with part of it re-radiated to the earth’s surface, resulting in global warming. Is that an accurate description of …

Energy conservation and climate change are now in fashion. Typically, common sense and fashion seldom have anything to do with each other. This is also the case with energy conservation and climate change.

I HAVE been asked several times ‘why am I so sceptical of the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) hypothesis’? There are many reasons, some of which I have documented in previous articles at this weblog, but these have relied on sometimes complex calculations which I admit can be difficult to appreciate. So I would like to outline here a few of my reasons based only on simple consistency with the AGW proponents’ own data.
1. The AGW movement claims there has been a global temperature rise of …

Your humble correspondent is once again ready to deliver a field report of the science of climate alarm.
Today we have an interesting bit. Over at Enviro-hack site RealClimate, they have been discussing the following paper:
Swanson, K.L., and A.A. Tsonis, 2009. Has the climate shifted? Geophysical Research Letters, 36, L06711, doi:10.1029/2008GL037022.
The gist of the paper is that the authors have found that there is “synchronized chaos” in climate, which can lead to sudden “shifts” in the climate. They identify several shifts in climate as illustrated by this figure:
Figure 1: Global temperature …

“When I start receiving those turbines, I’ve got to … like I said, my garage won’t hold them,…They’ve got to go someplace.”
Mesa Power, owned by Pickens, ordered 687 wind turbines from none other than GE for a meager price of just $2,000,000,000 and he leased 200,000 acres of land to put them on. He is also looking for participants in smaller wind farm projects in the Midwest and Canada.

“THE scientific method is a valuable way to advance objective knowledge. By testing a hypothesis against observation, it can either be falsified or supported. Not proved, of course, but nevertheless over time sufficient evidence can accumulate for a hypothesis to be generally accepted as the best available explanation. It is then known as a theory. Hence, although the vast majority of scientists and citizens (at least in Europe) accept Darwin’s description of evolution, this is still regarded as a theory rather than fact. This is important, because …

BURNED-OVER DISTRICT, NY–Once upon a time in America, schoolchildren celebrated a lovely little holiday called Arbor Day. The planting, like Arbor Day itself, was both symbolic and practical, and a nice lesson in the ways in which conservation and renewal begin at home. Fittingly, …

Once again your humble field correspondent is here to bring you news about the latest AGW science. Today I have good news and bad news. The good news is that there now seems to be reasonable agreement that the paradigm of stationarity in the hydrological sciences has been put to rest. Global Warming
June 6th, 2009 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D.

The use of complex computerized numerical models for predicting global warming is obviously critical to the IPCC’s claims that manmade global warming will be — if it is not already — a serious problem for humanity. While I am not a lawyer, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, I have the following thoughts regarding the admissibility of climate …
