Watts Up With That?
August 24, 2010
EXCERPT:
For those who don’t know, William Connolley, a Real Climate founding contributor, has been the most prolific climate information gatekeeper at Wikipedia, and was the subject of this Lawrence Solomon article:
Wikibullies at work. The National Post exposes broad trust issues over Wikipedia climate information
Given the volume of his volunteer Wiki output, one wonders how he supports himself with regular work.
Bishop hill reports today:
A correspondent writes to tell me that Wikipedia’s Arbitration Committee are currently examining the conduct of people involved in …

EXCERPT:
The phenomena of disinvitation and the brotherhood of silence
Scientists who venture to make independent statements in public about environmental myths soon come to learn about two post-modern-science tactics used to suppress their views – namely, disinvitation and the application of a brotherhood of silence. How these tactics work is explained in this article.
The modus operandi
A member of the organising committee for one or another conference comes to one of my talks, or chances to meet a friend who has …

EXCERPT:
Lawrence Soloman on how the Climategate scientists hijacked Wikipedia to preach warming and censor sceptics:

As we now know from the Climategate Emails, this band [of Climategate scientists] saw the Medieval Warm Period as an enormous obstacle in their mission of spreading the word about global warming. If temperatures were warmer 1,000 years ago than today, the Climategate Emails explain in detail, their message that we now live in the warmest of all possible times would be undermined…
With the help …

The Unbearable nakedness of Climate Change
11-24-2009
EXCERPT:
Freedom of information, my okole…
by Willis Eschenbach
People seem to be missing the real issue in the CRU emails. Gavin over at realclimate keeps distracting people by saying the issue is the scientists being nasty to each other, and what Trenberth said, and the Nature “trick”, and the like. Those are side trails. To me, the main issue is the frontal attack on the heart of science, which is transparency.
Science works by one person making a claim, and backing it up with the data and …

The price for speaking out against global warming is exile from your peers, even if you are at the top of your field.
What follows is an example of a scientific group that not only stopped a leading researcher from attending a meeting, but then—without discussing the evidence—applauds the IPCC and recommends urgent policies to reduce greenhouse gases. What has science been reduced to if bear biologists feel they can effectively issue ad hoc recommendations on worldwide energy use?  How low have standards sunk if informed opinion is censored, while …

The Australian
Christopher Pearson | September 12, 2009
EXCERPT:
GARTH Paltridge was a chief research scientist with the CSIRO’s division of atmospheric research before becoming the director of the Institute of Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies and chief executive of the Antarctic Co-operative Research Centre.
His latest sceptical contribution to the debate on the dangers of carbon dioxide is a book, endearingly titled The Climate Caper.
Paltridge gives a crisp summary of the physics and economics of climate change, but I want to focus here on his account of the new green religion. “Perhaps the …

Talking About The Weather
by Harold Ambler on August 31, 2009
EXCERPT:
The following is an open letter to the principal editor of the website realclimate.org, Dr. Gavin Schmidt. Realclimate, for those who don’t already know, exists in large measure to cast doubt on skeptical scientists’ work regarding global warming and, as much as possible, to stifle dissent on the internet.
Dear Dr. Schmidt,
As you know, I recently contacted you with an offer to be “friendly adversaries.” My offer was sincere. I take your comment on my blog to be your response, as you did …

The CATO Institute
Regulation
Summer 2007
BY STANLEY W. TRIMBLE
University of California, Los Angeles
EXCERPT:
Everyone knows that soil erosion is a U.S.
crisis. This study can’t be right.” That
statement is a paraphrase of a reviewer’s
comments on a paper on greatly declining
rates of U.S. soil erosion that I submitted
to the journal Science in 1982.
For Science, as a matter of policy, it took
only one negative review to reject my paper; the reviewer’s disbelief
meant the journal would not publish my findings. No
matter that the study was sponsored by several government
agencies and overseen by the U.S. Geological Survey, that …

Climate Audit
by Steve McIntyre on August 13th, 2009
EXCERPT:
Today brought in some CRU refusals- their rejections of Ross Mc, Roman M, myself. (They’re going to have to re-do their Roger Pielke rejection, since they replied to the wrong request in his case.) Each one deserves to be savored. So today I’ll post up their obstruction of Ross McKitrick.
FOI officer Palmer denied the request on the grounds that the request is “manifestly unreasonable” as the data is “available elsewhere”, that its disclosure would have an “adverse effect on international relations” and would …

We’ve lost the numbers: CRU responds to FOIA requests
EXCERPT:
The world’s source for global temperature record admits it’s lost or destroyed all the original data that would allow a third party to construct a global temperature record. The destruction (or loss) of the data comes at a convenient time for the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in East Anglia – permitting it to snub FoIA requests to see the data.
The CRU has refused to release the raw weather station data and its processing methods for inspection …

The Exxon “Blame-Game” is a Distracting Side Show

EXCERPT:
Much media attention has relentlessly focused on the influence of “Big Oil”—but the numbers don’t add up. Exxon Mobil is still vilified1 for giving around 23 million dollars, spread over roughly ten years, to skeptics of the enhanced greenhouse effect. It amounts to about $2 million a year, compared to the US government input of well over $2 billion a year. The entire total funds supplied from Exxon amounts to less than one five-thousandth of the value of carbon trading in just the …

A former polar bear biologist with the Nunavut government should have been invited to an international meeting of scientists, regardless of his views on climate change, said a wildlife official with Nunavut’s Inuit organization.
Mitch Taylor, who retired from the Nunavut government after working three decades in the North, was denied an invitation from the Polar Bear Specialist Group’s latest meeting, since his opinions about climate change are inconsistent with those of the rest of the group.
Last weekend’s meeting brought together the world’s leading polar bear researchers in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Climate Change: A suppressed EPA study says old U.N. data ignore the decline in global temperatures and other inconvenient truths. Was the report kept under wraps to influence the vote on the cap-and-trade bill?
This was supposed to be the most transparent administration ever. Yet as the House of Representatives prepared to vote on the Waxman-Markey bill, the largest tax increase in U.S. history on 100% of Americans, an attempt was made to suppress a study shredding supporters’ arguments.
On Friday, the day of the vote, the Competitive Enterprise Institute said it …

CLIMATE DEPOT
Tuesday, May 19, 2009
By Marc Morano
EXCERPT:
Commissioner Foster Campbell of the Louisiana Public Service Commission is demanding to know why a witness skeptical of man-made global warming was not “shut down” during a May 13, 2009 hearing in Baton Rouge.
According to an article in The Times-Picayune on May 19, 2009, Campbell was irate that Climate Depot’s executive editor Marc Morano was invited to speak at the hearing by Commissioner Eric Skrmetta. The paper reported: “Campbell criticized [Chairman] Boissiere for not shutting down Morano’s presentation.” [Morano note: This is eerily similar …

Washington DC – UK’s Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington. February 15th, 2009 Posted by: Roger Pielke, Jr.
EXCERPT:

Last week Vicky Pope of the UK Met Service caused a bit of a stir by calling for some restraint in the misrepresentation of climate science in political debates. She wrote:
Overplaying natural variations in the weather as climate change is just as much a distortion of the science as underplaying them to claim that climate change has stopped or is not happening. Both undermine the basic facts that the implications of climate change are profound and will …

Global Warming Hoax
R.Danneskjöld, Wednesday 04 February 2009
EXCERPT:
Apparently there is a big scandal brewing at NASA. A certain NASA GISS employee has been caught in some ethical lapses by taking credit for someone else’s work. Not just anyone, but his arch enemy Steve McIntyre’s from Climate Audit. Now this NASA employee is using his position at NASA to try to force Professor Roger Pielke, Jr’s employer in to removing Roger’s blog post. This is really pathetic.
This is apparently now coercion, on top of scientific plagiarism, on top of incompetence going on …

The Amazing Story Behind The Global Warming Scam

By John Coleman
January 28, 2009
The key players are now all in place in Washington and in state governments across America to officially label carbon dioxide as a pollutant and enact laws that tax we citizens for our carbon footprints. Only two details stand in the way, the faltering economic times and a dramatic turn toward a colder climate. The last two bitter winters have lead to a rise in public awareness that CO2 is not a pollutant and is not a significant greenhouse gas that is triggering runaway global warming.
How …

The intimidation tactics and belittling words of those in global warming alarmism are only a means to cloak the weaknesses of their arguments, especially now that the scientific and economic evidence has found a broader, more receptive audience — check the latest poll results if you don’t believe me.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the global warming scam is the number of prominent people and entire segments of society bullied into silence. Consider the case of Dr. Joanne Simpson described as follows.
“the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.” Then consider her statement. “Since I am no longer …

There are some who are dismissive of non-alarmists on climate. Their allegiance to AGW theory often causes them to be imperious and derogatory in their remarks, with any questioning of the alarmist dogma derided as lacking in credibility or the product of ideological paranoia (a theme developed more fully here).

On November 3rd 2008, two technical papers that Dr Roy Spencer had recently submitted to the journal Geophysical Research Letters were outright rejected in back-to-back emails and on the same day all 78 reviews of his book ‘Climate Confusion’ on Amazon.com were removed from that website. Ironically, this coincides with the publication of his Journal of Climate paper, blogged by Climate Research News here.
UPDATE: Book reviews now restored and increased to 82 – I guess the publisher may have contacted Amazon.

For ten years or more, professor David Deming has taught a course in environmental geology at the University of Oklahoma.  In October 2008, he was informed that the “general education” certification for his course was being revoked.  Under the University of Oklahoma system, this means that student enrollment in the course is likely to drop by two-thirds.
This is a course which receives outstanding student evaluations. Professor Deming is well-known to be a global-warming skeptic.  In 2006, he testified before the US Senate that media coverage of global warming …
