EXCERPT:

TORONTO | Canadian researchers studying the Arctic´s ancient permafrost have discovered 700,000-year-old ice wedges buried in the soil that have survived earlier periods of global warming, adding complexity to predictions about the impact of contemporary climate change.

Duane Froese, an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science at the University of Alberta, found what he describes as “the oldest ice in North America” in the Klondike region of Canada’s Yukon Territory about 10 feet below the surface.

Because these ice wedges were found under a layer of volcanic ash, researchers from the University of Toronto and the Geological Survey of Canada were able to use a technique known as “fission track dating” of the ash to date it at roughly 700,000 years old.

Golly there is a reason why it is called a PERmafrost.

Since this interglacial period we are in now is the coolest one of the previous 3 or 4.We should realize that since nothing terrible happened all those warmer interglacials. We should be fine in this one.

    See how easy that was?

This kind of puts a damper on alarmists.

sunsettommy says we should be fine during this interglacial since nothing terrible happened in those other interglacials. Check your calendar. “We” were not here during those last interglacials. Geologists put the humans in the mix about 200,000 years ago. Or am I missing something?

Nope you did not miss anything.

But since you did not make an actual counterpoint against what I wrote.Especially this part:

“Since this interglacial period we are in now is the coolest one of the previous 3 or 4.”

You failed to realize that you actually increased the significance of my words above by stating:

““We” were not here during those last interglacials. Geologists put the humans in the mix about 200,000 years ago.”

Since are in the COOLEST of the last 3-4 interglacials. We apparently have not been heating up the planet in any big way in the last few centuries.Yet in those other interglacials you say we did not exist in.Were ALL warmer that the one we are living in now.

The MWP,Roman warm period and the Holocene Optimism were all WARMER than the last century’s warming trend.

Since it appears that the warming trend has stopped over 7 years ago. This interglacial period being the coolest of the last 500,000 plus years. Will remain unchallenged.

It is a double whammy as far as I am concerned.

Sorry. I didn’t make myself clear. I don’t subscribe to the AGW theories. While all living things respond to their environment, man is the only one that documents and worries about it.
I have no problem with cleaning up the environment. I do have a problem with those who would trash the economies of productive peoples in order to “save the planet”.
Especially when absolutely no scientific evidence exists, to my knowledge, that reducing carbon emissions will do anything to make significant changes in the climate.
And declaring carbon dioxide a pollutant is the height of ignorance, in my opinion.

  • sunsettommy said:

Well you post a very different reply. That I wonder if you are backtracking?

At any rate. This interglacial is by far the coolest.A fact that does not seem to trouble AGW believers thinking.

That is a reason why I chose to post this article. That PERMAFROST survived much warmer previous interglacials.
