DoE Suspends Funds to CRU Crew
While the press had largely satisfied itself that the internal whitewash of the Hadley CRU climategate email scandal settles the matter, the U.S. Department of Energy seems to be saying, "Not so fast."
The American government has suspended its funding of the University of East Anglia's climate research unit (CRU), citing the scientific doubts raised by last November's leak of hundreds of stolen emails.
The US Department of Energy (DoE) was one of the unit's main sources of funding for its work assembling a database of global temperatures.
It has supported the CRU financially since 1990 and gives the unit about £131,000 ($200,000 USD) a year on a rolling three-year contract.
This should have been renewed automatically in April, but the department has suspended all payments since May pending a scientific peer review of the unit's work.

DoE Suspends Funds to CRU Crew
RE: A Ray Of Hope? - strogoff - 07-19-2010 07:14 AM
Most comments I read yesterday at WUWT said this was going to be a new whitewash, the same opinion had Richard111 in another thread:
Quote:At this stage of the game I don't think the DoE will find anything wrong with the CRU. Besides, Obama wouldn't allow it!
What I find strange is 1st, that the DoE has been funding the CRU and, 2nd, that the funds have been suspended in April and we are told this more than 2 months later.
I think that they are in an awkward position: one more whitewash entail too many whitewashes, and if it´s not a whitewash...
A comment from WUWT:

Finally, there is the possibility that maybe, just maybe, Obama is looking for an excuse not to push Cap’n Trade.
I doubt it. He is full steam ahead onjust about every program that will doom the economy to pathetic performance for the next ten years. Besides we haven't re-distributed enough wealth yet. There are still people who have discretionary capital. That's not allowed in Obama-World.

But you have to be an artist to know exactly the appropriate level and quality of the scare, otherwise you can get a revolution!
(For what I´ve been reading, I understood that Health Bill and subsequent taxes are not running as happily and smoothly as "they" thought, and Obama is trying to delay Cap & Trade not to make people more angry) (aside of all of the oil spill thing).

Maybe noreworthy - Cameron, Obama press conference re oil spill, and, errr, the Maghary (yes the Scots were WRONG) release.
[and no, I ain't going to check how to spell a mass murderer correctly]
Not a mention of "climate change" or cap n trade (that I heard before walking the dog)...
RE: A Ray Of Hope? - strogoff - 07-20-2010 01:46 PM
What is the Maghary release ?
If New Scientist thinks that Russell report is a whitewash, why DoE cannot state the same?:
Does New Scientist Foresee Paradigm Shift on Climate Theory?
They only have to delay decissions; could arrange one more inquiry. Why not?

Releasing a convicted mass murderer (270 people dead) on compassionate grounds?
Because the killer (270 dead because of this creep) has terminal cancer. Therefore it is a good idea to let him go and die at home in peace (those 270 killed, never got to die at home in peace. They got blown up to bits),thus sparing him the ignomity of finishing his LIFE sentence behind bars.

Quote:The American government has suspended its funding of the University of East Anglia's climate research unit (CRU), citing the scientific doubts raised by last November's leak of hundreds of stolen emails.
There are two reasons why this is so wrong.
1) American Government funding a British climate group based in England.
2) The leak of e-mail that were stolen.
RE: A Ray Of Hope? - strogoff - 07-22-2010 11:53 AM
It seems that DoE´s funding to the CRU has been higher than initially thought. From WUWT:
US DOE apparently funded CRU millions, not $200K as reported
This may be also interesting:
Reid to advance limited oil spill and energy bill, delaying climate action
Quote:Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will bring a limited package of oil spill response and energy measures to the floor next week, delaying action until at least this fall on a broader proposal that would impose greenhouse gas limits on power plants, senior Senate Democratic aides said.
That would be very near to Cancun talks, and things are not going well for renewing Kyoto protocol:
United Nations Proposes Stopgaps as Global Talks Fail to Renew Kyoto Pact
Quote:The treaty’s first restrictions on greenhouse gases are for the five years starting in 2008. Under one interpretation of climate laws, a failure to extend or replace Kyoto would prevent validation and registration of CDM projects, the paper said.

It was announced today that Cap n trade is off the table for the Dems for now. They are probably scared that pushing another tax bill down our throats would doom them even more in the Nov elections.

It's a shame that it isn't the pseudo science that is causing them to back off..
Although Obama did say something about getting back to good science didn't he.
I think the "another tax" reason is their way of avoiding the real issue.
The public are sussing "the science" of AGW.
If they (but they won't - too much invested in it) came "clean" now regarding "uncertainties" of AGW,
then they might just stand a chance.
In the end this is the death nail for the public's trust in politicians.
Exactly the opposite of what the American constitution was put into place for,
so the public could trust politicians.

They are doing that to do the damage right after the November elections,to take pressure off the dishonest Democrats who are probably losing their respective elections. That way they can cast their lame duck votes without any conscience (if they had any left) to the damage they create.
This is why I now despise the Democrat party in America.
RE: A Ray Of Hope? - ajmplanner - 07-23-2010 05:02 PM
They may not use the lame duck session after November and before the new Congressional folks are sworn in in January to inflict Cap n Trade damage according to at least one political pundit ( sorry, can't remember who I heard. Maybe Brit Hume). His theory is that another wave of Dems are up for re-election in 2012. If the Dems lose big this November, the next wave to face re-election is unlikely to stick their necks out and vote for another highly despised and controversial major tax bill. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Anything is possible with these dopes runnning things.
