Woodmobiles - strogoff - 09-30-2010 05:46 AM I found next article fascinating (in an apocalyptic but great Low-tech Magazine): Wood gas vehicles: firewood in the fuel tank Quote:Unfortunately, wood gas shares an important disadvantage with other biofuels. Mass producing woodmobiles would not solve this. Quite the contrary, in fact: if we were to convert every vehicle, or even just a significant number, to wood gas, all the trees in the world would be gone and we would die of hunger because all agricultural land would be sacrificed for energy crops. Indeed, the woodmobile caused severe deforestation in France during the Second World War (source). Just as with many other biofuels, the technology is not scalable. RE: Woodmobiles - Sunsettommy - 09-30-2010 06:40 AM Burn up wood that has CO2 in it. LOL By the way France had 65,000 woodmobiles in France,at its peak in 1942.That was enough to seriously deforest their own land. Here is a quote: Quote:Indeed, the woodmobile caused severe deforestation in France during the Second World War (source). Burning Coal,Oil and wood releases CO2.
RE: Woodmobiles - Questioning_Climate - 09-30-2010 12:37 PM Woodmobiles sounds like a great way to reach Peak Wood. Of course only the elite should be allowed to have one or else all the agricultural land would disappear under coppices leaving no room for food. And the elite must not go hungry! Steam engines look more appealing.
RE: Woodmobiles - strogoff - 09-30-2010 12:56 PM Peak wood. Good one! (I´m not selling apocalyptic cars; just liked the pictures)
