Yamal and Hide-the-Decline back in the news post Climategate.
Hi All,
http://climateaudit.org/2011/04/09/yamal...e-decline/ Yamal and Hide-the-Decline Steve McIntyre, posted on Apr 9, 2011 Excerpt. Yamal at the Start and End of the Emails Although the climate science community has represented Climategate as being about the CRU temperature record, the temperature record is only mentioned in a couple of emails. The dossier is not about CRUTEM, it’s about the Hockey Stick. And within that debate, the dossier was seemingly constructed with particular attention to Yamal. Pearce’s observation about the Climategate dossier beginning with Yamal is literally true. The very first email (1. 0826209667.txt) is about Yamal – an opening scene wittily described by Michael Kelly in an overlooked account of the emails shortly after they became public: Also posted at WUWT. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/04/09/th...more-37659 The pre-Climategate issue that is the issue Posted on April 9, 2011 by Anthony Watts Excerpt. " I urge every climate blog to pick this utterly damning story of forensic investigation up and make it as widely known as possible. – Anthony " AND, just to show what a well informed and up to date bunch we are so lucky to have on the main forum here, Tree rings record manure not temperature I think Goose52 summed things up quite well on this thread, Tree ring proxies Excerpt, I am referring to Micheal Mann, and any other observations about tree ring proxies would help too. What exactly do these scientist measure. Tree ring width, density, composition? How do they deal with other growth factors such as availability of: 1. Sunlight. 2. Water. 3. CO2. 4. Insect impact. 5. Altitude/oxygen Nutrients, tree age / circumference, could / should be added to the above list of factors. I would also repeat a question "we" have asked here before. Untill all the various factors that are known to effect a tree ring width are first identified and then isolated, for each growing season / year, how can the tree ring width be attributed to any one variable ALONE... Answer - Tree ring width can not be attributed to any one variable alone, nor how much the one variable has contributed to the recorded tree ring width. Tree ring width per growing season / year is patently a composite of all the factors and how they have varied. The individual factors must be separated out first. Including reindeer manure..... It is patently obvious that individual factors have not even been attempted to be separated out, this is because it is impossible to do with the records used in Dr Micheal Mann's "Hockey Stick". In all honesty I am at a bit of a loss to explain why "we" have had to go "the long way round" to (so admirably, methodically, and correctly it must be said in praise of Steve McIntyre) deconstruct the "Hockey Stick". The tree ring proxies used in the "Hockey Stick" are, cherry picked, AND totally useless for their intended purpose as constructed / used - end of story. |
