‘Low carbon’ is code for low ambitions

Brendan O’Neill
Thursday 16 July 2009

Excerpts,
" Ed Miliband, the UK climate change secretary, unveiled the government’s plans for
cutting carbon emissions in the UK by 34 per cent by 2020 and by 80 per cent by 2050.
In the fields of manufacturing, energy production, transport and housing,
revealed Miliband in 650 pages of shiny manifestos and strategy documents, carbon-use will be slashed.
Commentators were overjoyed, describing it as ‘nothing less than a green industrial revolution’,
which might rank as ‘one of the most important moments in British economic history’ (1).

Steady on. There is nothing remotely revolutionary about Miliband’s plans.
And the only sense in which they are historic is that they represent – albeit in a coded, PC fashion
– Britain’s disavowal of its own industrial history and its final embrace of the slow life,
low ambitions and the realities of economic failure. "

Why did I not emigrate a few years back when the going was good........... ???
I'm going to be left here now, watching the lights being put out,
for a green utopia dream being enforced upon us,
that is the economic suicide of a once great nation.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed
(and hence clamorous to be led to safety)
by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken.

The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that
"they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions.

I dunno, it's kind of romantic, isn't it? Playing chess against your smart electricity meter under dim lights? And a glass of wine? It's the new 21st century enviroromanticism.

I assume the meter can play chess, can't it?

The electric meter would probably be banned too,for it's terrible carbon footprint.

It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies.

Quote:The Miliband plan reveals something profound about the politics of environmentalism: it justifies, even celebrates, underdevelopment and lack of investment in infrastructure, but in the dishonest language of ‘low carbon’ and ‘cleaner futures’. This is the opposite of revolutionary. Indeed, the government’s adoption of a new language that effectively heralds Britain’s position as a slow, meek and visionless nation is, in many ways, the final nail in the coffin of the industrial revolution that gave birth to modern Britain.

A nation that spreads culture for several centuries, gets struck down from with in.All because of irrational fear of a few new molecules of a gas,a gas that is still at trace levels in the atmosphere.

Sad

Me, I drink lager and race on the playstation, I hope the "smart" electricity metre can keep up.
Chess is so old hat........
