KINDLE, is it worth it?
The family have suggested they club together and get me a Kindle for my next birthday. I am bit leery. I am a great book reader. I find I often need to dodge back a few pages, or even chapters, to refresh my memory on some previous event in the story. Would the kindle allow this?
Also the kindle available in the UK does not have an internet connection. I gather the USA have something called 'whispernet' produced by Amazon so you download on the go but this requires subscriptions. More monthly expenses! ![]() Have tried to find a blog where people talk about their personal experiences. So far all I find seem to be advertising type blogs. They don't seem to mention any difficulties. Any links to interesting kindle blogs in the UK would be appreciated. I have a kindle reader on my laptop but I don't fancy taking it to bed! ![]() I often fall asleep reading (why I read in bed ) and the book drops to the floor. Would a kindle take this treatment? Okay, its not far and there is a mat, but what about the battery?I think what I need is KINDLE HIRE, like borrow one from a library for two weeks to see how I get on with it. ![]() Any thoughts on this subject, good or bad, will be read with interest. CO2 comes from coal, coal comes from fossilised trees, fossilised trees come from living trees, living trees growth comes from CO2 therefore coal is carbon neutral. ...from here |

You might like to read some of the over 16,000 user reviews of the Kindle on Amazon's website:
h e r e. There are other ebook readers, too: Let me google that for you. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant! |

RE: KINDLE, is it worth it?
I have Kindle Reader. The simplest Kindle available.
I finally bought and installed the Dual-Band Router. Now I have Wireless set up for my house. This means I can now download books to the Kindle. It is so easy once you know how to set up the Kindle to be in WiFi mode. I have just downloaded three climate related books so far. The Inconvenient Skeptic. Originally downloaded to Cloud Reader, back in late November. Now it is in my Kindle. The Delinquent Teenager Slaying Sky Dragon If all you want is to read e-books.Then Kindle or Kindle Touch would be fine. Now it is time to read!
It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies. –William O. Douglas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1952 |

RE: KINDLE, is it worth it?
I have to have a book. My son has one. One advantage is there is a lot of public domain stuff i.e. the classics that you can download for free. And, you can keep many books on it if your tastes wander a lot. I still have to have the book.
