EXCERPT:

A cold snap in Greenland in the 12th century may help explain why Viking settlers vanished from the island, scientists claim.

Researchers reconstructed temperatures by examining lake sediment cores in west Greenland dating back 5,600 years.

Their findings indicated that earlier, pre-historic settlers also had to contend with vicious swings in climate on icy Greenland.

Quote:Average temperatures plunged 4C (7F) in just 80 years from about 1100.

In all that time CO2 levels in the atmosphere was about 280 ppm.

It stayed about that level in all those centuries of cooling that followed afterwards.Right through the LIA period to 1880.

Surely that should cause you to wonder about the relevance of CO2 as a warm forcing agent. One that utterly fails to prevent the large scale temperature changes from a high point of the MWP to low point of the LIA.

A nice 4-6C degree change.

Dodgy
