Nuclear Energy in Denmark
Nuclear Energy in Denmark
(Updated May 2011)
In 2007, Denmark generated 39.2 billion kWh of electricity gross, 51% (19.9 billion kWh) of this from coal, 18% (6.9 billion kWh) from gas and 18% (7.2 billion kWh) from wind. These figures however are misleading since Denmark is neither unified electrically nor isolated – East Denmark (Zeeland) and West Denmark (Jutland & Funen) are unconnecteda and each is part of a major grid system. In 2007, about 11.4 billion kWh was exported and 10.4 billion kWh imported. About 6.3 billion kWh (net) was exported to Germany, and net imports from Norway and Sweden were about 2.8 billion kWh and 2.6 billion kWh, respectively. Per capita electricity use is about 6200 kWh/yr and has been largely unchanged for several years. In 2007, electricity prices in the country were the highest in the worldb. Energinet.dk is the transmission system operator and owner of the main electrical infrastructure in Denmark. It took over in 2005 from Elkraft in East Denmark, and Eltra in West Denmark. ~snip~ http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf99.html “We do not believe any group of men adequate enough or wise enough to operate without scrutiny or without criticism. We know that the only way to avoid error is to detect it, that the only way to detect it is to be free to inquire. We know that in secrecy error undetected will flourish and subvert”. – J Robert Oppenheimer. |
