Outgoing Longwave Radiation and the Greenhouse Effect: Ken Gregory
Jennifer Marohasy

June 28,2011

by Jennifer Marohasy

HAS the greenhouse effect increased with man-made greenhouse gas emissions? Canadian Ken Gregory asks and answers this question concluding…

It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies.

–William O. Douglas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1952
The problems with the GHE as described most commonly are legion. I have written extensively about this topic which is warranted as this is the foundation of the global warming debate.

Unlike the endless discussion about reconstruction methods or problems with the station data vs. satellite data, the energy balance is the foundation of predicting what the Earth's climate will be like in the future.

I will have to see about getting some of my full articles posted here to simplify the process of discussion. For now here is a link to one of the relevant articles which discusses the GHE. It is unfortunate that the GHE is applied to the difference between the blackbody temperature of the Earth and the actual temperature.
