Am I, and are you, a denier or a dissident?
Hi All,
I have been pondering over the term "denier" for a bit now. I do not like it because it is negative, and it better describes to my mind what the consensus is doing. ie, they are in denial. So, is dissident a better term, in that I am a consensus climate science (CCS) dissident. I asked a friend recently what dissident means, and the below is how she replied. Apparently the term dissident originally referred to an individual who opposes society, but, due to its usage by opponents of the communist party to describe themselves, it is now used to refer to an individual whose non conformism is believed to be to the good of society!! Thank you Michelle, I will be referring to myself from now on as a CCS dissident. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken. The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that "they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions. |

Is it OK to simply be a non-believer?
I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant! |

RE: Am I, and are you, a denier or a dissident?
Hmmm...
I have seen the word denier thrown around a lot by those who are irrationally hanging onto the AGW hypothesis.A conjecture that has long ago died from a perfect record of failing all of the few testable projections/predictions. So while their cherished hypothesis is dead and buried, courtesy of published empirical science. They, while failing to see the irony of their own denial.Call skeptical people denialist's. ![]() In my case.I am a dissenter of their absurd AGW hypothesis.Since it is a DEAD hypothesis.I am no longer having to dissent against it. But they still think it is alive and robust, despite no evidence in favor of it. This makes them a true denier on the reality of the rotting corpse, that AGW hypothesis is. It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies. –William O. Douglas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1952 |
