James Lovelock Renegs
James Lovelock, longtime Gaia enthusiast, and ardent AGW proselitizer announces :

I was ‘alarmist’ about climate change & so was Gore! ‘The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago

The article appears on the icecap website: http://www.icecap.us/

This should be big news. Interestingly, it came out of MSNBC, the most far left liberal news outlet around.

RE: James Lovelock Renegs
Yes it is good to see James backtrack significantly but he is still a warmist despite his candid comments.

It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies.

–William O. Douglas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1952

RE: James Lovelock Renegs
Interesting indeed, is this an admission by the left that climate change is loosing them votes?
He may still be an ardent warmist, but he may well indicate how they intend to play this out.

Gore was wrong - WOW, there may indeed be hope.
That said, I think the consensus and the left have dug themselves in way too deep for there to be a soft landing, or allow face saving back tracking by them.
They simply have gone too far.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed
(and hence clamorous to be led to safety)
by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken.

The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that
"they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions.

RE: James Lovelock Renegs
I have spent a few minutes reading the icecap, Climate Depot and MSNBC articles.
It would appear James Lovelock has done a lot more than just a "mere" reneg on Gaia.

For example, I spotted these in the ICECAP article, which is probably the best one I think.
http://www.icecap.us/
" James Lovelock on Ozone hole science: ‘We should have been warned by the CFC/ozone affair because the corruption of science in that was so bad...’
‘Something like 80% of the measurements being made during that time were either faked, or incompetently done’
"

and,
" 2010 Shock: Green Guru Lovelock warms to skeptics! ‘The skeptics have kept us sane...
They have kept us from regarding climate science as a religion. It had gone too far that way’
"

But this is possibly the MOST telling
" ‘I made a mistake’ As “an independent and a loner,” he said he did not mind saying “All right, I made a mistake.”
He claimed a university or government scientist might fear an admission of a mistake would lead to the loss of funding.”
"

I think the article at ICECAP is so good it is worth making into a pdf. So I have.
I have attached it to this post, if that is not the correct thing to do, then please SST feel free to remove it.
