Mobile Broadband
I use Vodafone VMCLite. This involves plugging a dongle into a USB port and voila! instant networking. I can even surf on the beach with my laptop.
 I am about to change my provider as Vodafone refuses to let me use Skype. We have family overseas and they keep asking us to get on board. My question. I can't find any uninstall feature for Vodafone, just a folder in MyDocuments labeled VMCLite containing a few .dat files with headings like Inbox, Outbox etc. Tried looking at them with Notepad but could not see any readable text. I am wondering if Vodafone did anything to the registry that I need to take care of before I plug in the new dongle. CO2 comes from coal, coal comes from fossilised trees, fossilised trees come from living trees, living trees growth comes from CO2 therefore coal is carbon neutral. ...from here |

Okay. I have some free time this Sunday afternoon. I will go ahead and plug in the new network dongle and see what happens.
If you don't see me on the board again before tomorrow you will know I am in deep doo-doo.

A bit late, but I do not believe that the Vodafone dongle would preclude you from using another one from another ISP.
Let us know, OK. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant! |

On line with the new system. Call them selves 3. (three) I think they own the 3G network in the UK. Took three reboots before it settled down.
http://www.speedtest.net/ says I am a mite slower than my previous setup but speed is not my priority, reliability and service is what I look for. Will check out Skype next. Have to email one of my overseas contacts to synchronise timing. My new mobile broadband seems to have settled down. Not dropping connections any more. Skype loaded fine and tested OK.
One problem, on my previous system I usually averaged about 700KB download a month. Now I am getting warnings I have used over 800KB in three weeks! I simply don't believe it. I notice more disk activity but this new system does not display the little traffic windows on the task bar so I can't tell when line activity is taking place. Convenient, eh? Anyone know of a simple internet traffic monitor that will keep a simple log of traffic flow while on line? Wow! There are a LOT of monitors out there!
Am trying this one: Bandwidth Meter Pro 2.6 build 629 Download file just over a meg. Installation VERY fast. So far looks like what I need. Problem is I only get 30 days trial use. If I like it enough I will pluck up courage to see how much.
