Amusing predictions for perspective on doomerism
Miami Herald article quoting UN's Noel Brown-A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of "eco-refugees," threatening political chaos, said Noel Brown, director of the New York office of the United Nations U.N. Environment Program, or UNEP. He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the [problem].

Brilliant HarpoSpoke,
great roundup. Why do I just "know" you'll find so many more... The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken. The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that "they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions. |

RE: Amusing predictions for perspective on doomerism
Since predictions are such an important part of this in particular and doom-saying in general, I've become very interesting in finding as many of the predictions as I can.
![]() The internet could become a real problem for the modern doomsayer. They thrive on people forgetting the failure of their past predictions. Having this stuff in print and widely available could result in many red faces. I need more Hansen and Gore stuff.

RE: Amusing predictions for perspective on doomerism
HarpoSpoke have you got copies of the emails Hansen used to send out to newspapers / politcians hither and thither. ?
I may have made a file of some of them, I'll have a look, pm me an email address and I'll forward the file or word documents if you want me to. I downloaded them from his site some time ago meaning to go through them, but err, never got round to it.
