50 Years of CO2: Time for a Vision Test
Global Warming
January 1st, 2009 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D. EXCERPT: (Jan. 10 update: A few people seem to have missed the point of this satirical post. It is a counterpoint to Al Gore’s use of “millions of tons” when talking about CO2 emissions. I’m pointing out that relative to the total atmosphere, millions of tons of CO2 is miniscule. And even a 50% increase in a very small number [the CO2 content of the atmosphere] is still a very small number.) Now that there have been 50 full years of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration monitoring at Mauna Loa, Hawaii, I thought January1, 2009 would be an appropriate time to take a nostalgic look back. LINK FOR THE REVEALING CHARTS ===================================================== He he what an effective way to cut down the CO2 molecule to where it belongs. It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. There must be no limit on the range of temperate discussion, no limits on thought. No subject must be taboo. No censor must preside at our assemblies. –William O. Douglas, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, 1952 |

RE: 50 Years of CO2: Time for a Vision Test
Talking of cutting down CO2 to where it belongs, and sorry for going off on a bit of a tangent, but.
What about convective heat movements (apparently an order of magnitude larger), versus radiation movements (Chart 1), and then separating out the amount of radiation movements by CO2, compared to say, errr, water vapour (Chart 2)... AND THEN the amount of (supposed) radiation movements due to (supposed) anthrpogenic CO2 (Chart 3)...... Finally (Chart 4) all heat movements (convective + radiation) versus anthropogenic CO2 radiation movements. Just a thought that occurred to me today, no doubt it's been done before, but useful all the same. NB - Do I understand correctly that IR budgets do not really take into account convective heat movements. ? The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken. The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that "they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions. |
