Exceptional weather
I post this to show just how unusual this upcoming weather is for my area.I live less than one mile of Vista Field. The current conditions location as shown in the box.
FORECAST The average high for my area at this date is 50 degree F.But they are forecasting drops of 25 degrees F from the average high.I do not recall this low a temperature for a high in many years. I may have to come in very early Monday morning,to help in cleaning up the city buildings from the white stuff.

RE: Exceptional weather
I am prepared for it.
It is simply a month earlier than usual. That is why it is unusual. The average high and low at the coldest part of winter is,35 degree F high and 21 degrees F for the low. That would be around day 9 of January. I see a wave of excitement coming from Canada anytime now.

We seem to be getting cold air from Sweden and Norway. There is a brilliant full moon outside. You can read a newspaper out there. The temperature is -1C !

RE: Exceptional weather
SST, if it's of any consolation to you we´ll be more or less the same in a few days. From No Tricks Zone:
Extreme Cold To Grip Europe. Forecast -38°C in Switzerland…Will Be Even Colder Later…Pattern Not Seen in 70 Years. Quote:When cold polar air is really there, than it’ll stick around for awhile. At the moment weather models show no end in sight for the coming cold wave. Quite to the contrary, the first weekend of December is going to be even colder, and there’s the threat of heavy snowfalls. RE: Exceptional weather
About six years ago I was seriously considering moving to Scotland,
to avoid the heat of global warming.... I was going to open a motorcyclists B&B to take advantage of the warming climate. Quite glad I didn't really.......... BTW - Not as extreme as SST's, or Strogoff's, but there is 2 inches of global warming on the ground in Oldham today. RE: Exceptional weather
Today,
there are still over 6" (15cm) of the cold stuff on the ground. That after a week since the main storm started. Today maybe the first day to get above freezing in the daytime since November 21.But only for a couple days or so and then cool back down to below freezing. Exceptional weather for a late November time period. Next week exceptional cold is in the forecast. Sigh...

RE: Exceptional weather
We have about two inches of global warming here too.
I even had to put tyre socks on the car to get home tonight. Nobody could get up or down the hill; it was chaos. I managed to get halfway up but was struggling to negotiate a narrow section between stranded cars. So I stopped and got out, much to the on-lookers surprise, pulled the socks out the back on the car and stretched them over the front tyres. Then I drove up the hill weaving around all the abandoned and stuck vehicles. They are simple but impressive piece of kit. Also they don't damage the tyres and are silent unlike traditional snow chains. "Correlation is NOT Causation"

RE: Exceptional weather
Hi All,
The outlook for us in Europe is not good. We appear also to be about to get a lot more exceptional weather. Please see attached. Q_C - What are the tyre socks you mention (I have not heard of these before), I think I'd better go and beat the rush... Later edit - A quick search has given a few hits, as Richard111 notes below, BUT, I can not find any in 195/60/15.....(weird isn't it mixing millimeters and inches..) The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. RE: Exceptional weather
Hmm... tyre socks. Never heard of them but a search brings up lots of hits. Not cheap but sounds like a worth while piece of kit to have if you have to travel on untreated roads like here in the UK.

I have now found them..
